This was the first location prototype of a new concept for Barrel of Fun, Inc., a regional arcade chain with locations in malls across the Southeast US. The location was initially tagged as “2001 Fun, Food & Computer Learning” but later simplified to “2001 Entertainment.”
The 5,000 sf concept showcased 3 core components: entertainment (with 50+ video games and pinball machines), computer education (featuring 10 Apple II+ computers in individual booths for time rental and software demo/sales), and a unique full-menu restaurant (with an elevated dining room behind glass overlooking the arcade floor.)
One of the Atlas Arcadia co-founders, David Bishop, was a manager of 2001 Entertainment at opening. 2001 played a pivotal role in his game career, and you can read more about that here.
