For half a century, the Arcade Theatre was a centerpiece of Waynesboro’s downtown architecture and entertainment. Opening in September 1916 at 75 W. Main St., the venue boasted the largest stage east of the Mississippi River and featured a pipe organ to accompany silent films. Adjacent to the theater stood the Arcade Restaurant, offering convenient dining for moviegoers. Both the theater and the restaurant were demolished in the summer of 1966, marking the end of an era for this beloved local landmark.
