Opened in 1969, Big Surf was a popular waterpark in Tempe, Arizona, notable for creating the first inland surfing facility in North America. Its Waikiki Beach wave pool, an engineering landmark, was designed by Phil Dexter and produced waves suitable for surfing in the desert environment. After more than fifty years of operation, the park closed permanently following the 2019 season. The site was later sold to developers and demolished to make way for a new industrial park.
