San Mateo Fashion Island # 2186, San Mateo, CA 94404-1541
The Gold Mine arcade at San Mateo Fashion Island was a popular entertainment venue characterized by its distinctive mineshaft theme. This arcade was part of a larger chain found in shopping malls across the United States. Located within the San Mateo Fashion Island mall, which opened in September 1981, the arcade likely began operations around the same time. The mall itself faced challenges and was eventually closed and demolished in 1996, leading to the permanent closure of the Gold Mine. The arcade may have also been rebranded as a Tilt location prior to the mall’s closure, a common transition for Gold Mine arcades owned by Nickels and Dimes Incorporated.
