Sega City / GameWorks: Circle Centre Mall

Sega City, located within Indianapolis’s Circle Centre Mall at 49 West Maryland Street, was an early entertainment offering for the downtown shopping complex, which opened on September 8, 1995. Initially part of a larger entertainment complex called Starport, the venue featured a video game arcade, alongside a Virtual World sci-fi experience and a Showscan motion-simulator theater. In 1999, the offerings were streamlined and the location was rebranded as GameWorks, a collaborative endeavor by Sega, Universal Studios, and DreamWorks, focusing primarily on arcade gaming.

This arcade served as a recreational hub for families and youth in downtown Indianapolis, providing a dedicated space for electronic entertainment within the mall’s broader efforts to revitalize the city center. GameWorks ultimately closed its doors in April 2010.
