Sidetracked Brewery, located in Morganton, North Carolina, began its journey as the Sidetracked Taproom in 2017. Joseph Ackerman joined as head brewer in January 2018, overseeing the construction of the brewhouse, and by March 2018, the brewery offered its first handcrafted beers. Ackerman subsequently took ownership in 2018, solidifying Sidetracked Brewery’s presence in the community, a milestone celebrated as eight years in business by 2025. Situated adjacent to the historic 1916 Morganton Railroad Depot and Museum, the brewery embraces its location with railroad-inspired beer names and a thematic atmosphere.
As a dedicated community hub, Sidetracked Brewery provides a welcoming environment for families, offering a kid-friendly and pet-friendly space. Beyond its array of craft beers, the venue features an extensive retro arcade room equipped with eight pinball machines, classic video games such as Pac-Man and Skee-Ball, and hosts weekly pinball tournaments as Morganton’s only IFPA Sanctioned pinball location. Additional attractions include Giant Jenga, darts, corn-hole boards, and various board games, creating a diverse recreational experience. The brewery is recognized for its commitment to local relationships, providing award-winning craft beers, and serving as a gathering place that fosters a sense of belonging within the Morganton community.
