Sultan’s Castle, an arcade located within the Raleigh Springs Mall at 3386 Austin Peay Highway in Memphis, Tennessee, provided a dedicated entertainment space for the local community for many years. The Raleigh Springs Mall itself opened on August 11, 1971, as one of Memphis’s first two shopping malls, quickly becoming a significant retail and social center for the Raleigh area. Sultan’s Castle became Fun-N-Games in early 1987.
As the Raleigh Springs Mall experienced a decline with the opening of newer shopping centers, Sultan’s Castle, like many other mall tenants, eventually ceased operations. The mall officially closed on November 18, 2016, with demolition beginning in May of the same year to make way for the Raleigh Springs Civic Center. The last public mention of Fun-N-Games is November of 1993, suggesting it closed then or in early 1994.
Sultan’s Castle, through its presence in the mall, contributed to the recreational landscape of Memphis during its operational years.
