Bear Right was a family entertainment center, with an arcade and an animatronic bear show downstairs and a large food court upstairs. It was somewhat unique in that the food court area featured regular branded fast food such as Burger King and Miami Subs, rather than the more typical integrated restaurant a la Chuck E Cheese. The upstairs dining area was also unusually large for this type of business.

The animatronic show downstairs was known as the Cavern Critter Revue. In addition to the sizable arcade, there were also a handful of coin-operated rides.

  1. Some color from my personal memories – in additon to Miami Subs and Burger King, there was also an Annabelle’s ice cream counter. Miami Subs was a pretty unusual chain to find in New England at that time, and this location was where I discovered how much I like both chicken wings and neon signs.

Concord is a rough halfway point between where I grew up in Maine, and where my grandparents lived in Vermont, so we’d often stop here on family road trips. Somewhere at my parent’s place we have a handful of family photos that were taken and I’m hoping to locate them for archival at some point. Despite Bear Right being a NH capital region institution for at least a decade, it’s shockingly difficult to find pictures.

Other random facts that don’t really fit in a formal description but that might help trigger other people’s memories:
    – There was a huge bank of pay phones in the basement near the bathrooms – very appropriate for a place trying to trade on being just off the highway.
    – The bathrooms were also downstairs, and quite large to my memory.
    – While the main animatronic show was downstairs, there were decorative trees upstairs that would occasionally have animatronic figures pop out and talk to each other or otherwise promote the show downstairs.
    – There was a glass elevator, though I only recall using it once or twice vs the stairs.
